Molecor introduces new socket joint system for PVC

Molecor (Getafe), a Spanish company specializing in the manufacture of oriented PVC (PVC-O) pipe and related technology for water pressure distribution, has developed a new socket joint system. Molecor modified the classic socket shape, enlarging the bell lip surface section to ensure safe installation and guarantee against leakage.

The open lip edge with a bell shape improves the socket joint of the pipe systems, providing a localized orientation to reinforce those areas where strain is concentrated. The socket side is the most important part of the piping system, Molecor's information notes. A complex geometry imparts greater strength to the socket joint system, especially in large-diameter and high-pressure pipes.

The new design takes into consideration not only the socket standard for mechanical and geometric parameters but also the orientation process, which is commonly dismissed, added Molecor.

In contrast to conventional manufacturing techniques, Molecor produces the socket at the same time that the rest of the pipe is being extruded, thus ensuring optimal conditions for molecular orientation. In addition to this stable and simultaneous process, the new socket joint system allows for different orientation degrees in the required sections, or even a special wall-thickness distribution.

The efficient socket design provides a robust rubber sealing ring and faster connection between pipes, resulting in enhanced installation.

The system complies with the (Spanish) national model of manufacturing according to standard UNE ISO:16422.
